People-Music-Moments #11

Chris Bowman

I’m now a dad of 2 & a part time Dj which is amazing, being able to do the thing I love that was instilled in me from a young age. I grew up in a musical household, my dad a keen guitarist with an ear for everything, so I was listening to everything from the Beatles to Indian pan pipes & trance nation 1 on a Saturday morning on the way to my football matches! I’ve always had a strong connection with music and there are lots of songs that are important to me, that have helped me over the years through the bad times, enjoy the good , and some that just give me proper nostalgia! I have these all in a Spotify playlist! All sorts of guilty pleasures, below are a few of my early musical influences.

Song 1

The Verve - bitter sweet symphony

The first time I heard this song was in 95, I think I was 9 and heading to funderland! It always stuck in my head and I was always gripped by the melody & strings. It wasn’t until I was about 16 I failed at Bangor tech that I started appreciating the song more and really listening to the lyrics. I went back to Ashfield and finished my a levels the year after and can remember how hard I had worked, smashing them getting As. walking out of school at the end of the results year I can remember listening to this song while walking home on my iPod . I actually remember thinking I was Ashcroft in the video walking up the holywood road. Delighted with myself, and realising how my life was about to change with university to look forward to and 😃

Song 2

Air - la femme d’argent

This song is from one of my favourite albums Moon Safari, I found lying around my house one day when I was in my teens. This song is the opening song, and it took me on a musical journey, it chilled me out and made me think about life and made me appreciate everything about it! It is insane how a piece of music can do that, and when the going gets tough i put this album on and appreciate the beauty!! Highly recommend

Song 3

The age of love - age of love (jam & spoon remix)

Driving to football every Saturday was a big part of my life growing up, my dad literally banging out the classics to get me and mates up for the game! Listening to trance nation 1 was our thing and some of my earliest memories of dance music! This track always done it for me, it gave me goosebumps on the way to games and it still gives me goosebumps! I wasn’t lucky enough to experience this track in the clubs in the prime of trance but I can only imagine it blew the minds of many people on dance floors everywhere, what a classic!!!
